Historical Walking Tour

Take a walking tour along Market Street, the heart of the “Vevay Historic District”.  You’ll find beautiful old homes of varying architectural styles surrounded by well kept gardens, and lovely views of the river.  See the 1840s mansion built by UP Schenck as known as the “Hay King.

See the historic George Knox house at the corner of Main & Main Cross, built circa 1830 and now beautifully restored.

Visit the Benjamin Franklin Schenck Mansion at the top of Main Cross Street.  Now a B&B, its park-like grounds features a fountain, gazebo, goldfish pond and grape arbors. Group tours are available by appointment or book a room for the night.

Visit the historic downtown & experience the flavor of a 19th century river town.  On east Market Street two informative museums are open seven days a week — the Switzerland County Historical Museum and the Life on the Ohio River History Museum.

Stop in at the Switzerland County Visitors Center on the corner of Main & Liberty Streets (128 West Main Street) to pick up a walking tour brochure.
